The 2018 Juried Visual Art Exhibition showcases a selection of new work by some of the most talented members of Pittsburgh’s vibrant creative community. It is one of the most-anticipated visual arts attractions at the Festival. A glowing brick, quilted camo and illuminated cameos, a waterfall of polaroids, pink silicon attached to car exhausts, a loaf of bread created from forgotten paper pulp, and a crown from discarded soup cans are just a sampling of the diverse works making their Pittsburgh debut by 28 talented, regional artists. Through knitting, stitching, quilting, searching, capturing, cutting, assembling, and painting, the artists in the 2018 Juried Visual Arts Exhibition weave together dichotomous threads of old and new, utopias and reality.

The jurors selected these pieces from a pool of over 500 submissions. From this great pool of entries, 43 works were selected through a “blind” jury process, with the artists’ identities undisclosed and regardless of resume or career level. The resulting exhibition at the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival is one that recontextualizes materials and challenges ideas of object and space. Peek into “prismatic portals,” meditate on “ways we understand and interact with reality,” and experience these “ruminations on contemporary culture.”

Each juror has chosen an artwork to grant a $500 Juror’s Award and collectively the 3 jurors selected one piece for Best in Show, a $2500 prize.

You can join the panel of jurors in awarding the best work in the JVAE. After you experience the show, you can vote on-site on your mobile device or with the JVAE staff at the 4th floor entrance lobby. Selected works may be offered for sale at artists’ discretion.
